Parent Education & Support Group

  • The parent group is a combined support/educational group. Generally, there are invited speakers who discuss important and relevant topics with the parents (e.g., reimbursement issues, transitioning from the IFSP to the IEP, etc.). On occasion, parents and their older children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing will participate to provide parents of young children with advice, experiences, and other valuable information.

  • Parents are also provided with "pre-teaching" materials to assist in preparing their children for the selected theme and activities of upcoming playgroups as well as take-home practice materials.  The ALEP staff also provides parent instruction, when desired and/or appropriate, in techniques used during playgroup.
